We spend up to 2 hours carrying out the initial dental assessment. We carry out the following:-

Digital photographs
Digital photographs of your face, and smile. Photographs really help us plan your treatment to a high standard.

Appropriate X-rays
We will take necessary X-rays to assess the health of your teeth and surrounding bone. We want to provide a healthy foundation, and take NO CHANCES of missing any underlying problems. We will take a special scanning X-ray and also close up small X-rays of individual teeth.

Smile Makeovers (Porcelain Veneers)

At The Perfect Smile Studios, we go through a special protocol to ensure you have a smile that suits your face and personality, with no surprises! This is how we do it:-

STEP 1: Accurate analysis of your smile and teeth by the dentist and ceramist technician.
STEP 2:Creation of Wax-ups to help stimulate your new smile.
STEP 3: The Trial Smile. After minor recontouring of your teeth (porcelain veneers need only be about 0.5mm thick), we create beautiful temporary veneers of the new shape and colour.
STEP 4: The Review Appointment. We confirm your approval of the temporary veneers for shape, colour, and comfort. Accurate measurements are then taken (up to 0.1mm accuracy!) as well as a new mould and photographs. This information is used by the ceramist to predictably create your new smile!
Shade Selection. The ceramist or dentist will record the precise colour match. Careful attention is made to match the colour variations within your natural teeth, as well as a precise measurement of the surface texture and lustre of your own teeth. This level of attention to detail creates whiter and natural looking teeth. We use only the best technicians in the UK that specialize in the art of porcelain work to create really lifelike and attractive restorations.

What makes a great smile?
A great smile automatically lifts a person’s confidence and makes them feel more attractive. Ultimately it is the one that is right for you, whether it is a white Hollywood smile or a more natural appearance, whichever you decide it is all about symmetry and natural balance!
Symmetry - Symmetry around the centreline of our face is of great importance for an aesthetically pleasing smile. Even when this is not 100% possible, the illusion of symmetry should be created. The front two upper central incisors should be symmetrical in size, length and shape.
Horizontal Alignment - Ideally the smile line should be aligned so it is parallel to the horizontal. Smile Line - The edges of your upper teeth should be parallel to the lower lip when you smile.
Gum Line - The gum line connects the highest points of the gum levels of the upper teeth. Ideally this line should follow the line of the upper lip, to ensure minimum gum exposure and optimum display of the teeth on smiling.
Smile Width - With a narrow smile the side teeth are often in shadow. A wider smile allows one to see the ideal progression from the front to the back teeth, this is more attractive!
Golden Proportion - The rule of Golden Proportion describes an ideal ratio of the visible widths of the front six teeth.
Tooth Proportion - These are the guidelines for the ideal proportions of each tooth to achieve a beautiful smile.
Embrasures - Embrasures are the small triangular spaces between the tips of the teeth. These are artistically created by the ceramist and dentist to ensure a natural look.
Lips - Lips are to teeth as a frame is to a picture! The shape, fullness and symmetry of lips can optimise the ideal smile.

The Ceramist Technician

We are privileged to work with some of the finest ceramist technicians in the UK. To create a beautiful and a natural looking smile that is suited to your face requires a lot of skill, passion and commitment. There are many different colours and subtle hues / translucencies within a natural tooth. Our goal is always to try and recreate this. Great attention is paid to the shape, colour and the surface texture characteristics. When all these factors are optimised, stunning results can be obtained. So, even if you wish to have a “Hollywood smile”, we can still make it look naturally beautiful, rather then the standard “chicklets” that are made for many Californian people!
Our main laboratory that we use is Amdecc Dental Laboratory, owned by master ceramist technician Mr Rob Storrar. It is based in Basildon and is one of the most modern and highly equipped dental laboratories in the UK. Rob has an amazing Team that supports him in all the cases we do.
The laboratory’s involvement in doing a cosmetic case is paramount from the outset. The technician will help analyse your models and plan the shape, size and position of the teeth very accurately in conjunction with the dentist’s prescription records (following our thorough initial assessment).
The next stage involves the creation of “wax ups”, which are an excellent guide or template from which your new “Trial Smile” is created.
The shade selection is accurately carried out to suit your personal requirements.
The technician can then use his artistic skills to painstakingly build up the porcelain layers to create the individual porcelain veneers or crowns.
These custom built restorations are then “fired” at precise temperatures and pressures in state of the art computerised dental furnaces to convert them to the final restorations. These are all then fitted on to the patient’s model and custom finished and polished.

What are implants?
Dental implants are used to replace missing teeth.In simple terms they are titanium rods or screws that are fixed to the jawbone. An extension is then secured to the implant and a new crown is placed to match the colour and contours of the existing teeth.

Implant Treatment
Stage 1 (Implant placement)
Placing the implant involves a small, comfortable procedure, usually carried out with a local anaesthetic. The implant is placed in the bone and covered with an antiseptic dressing. This is removed two weeks later. Over the next four to six months, the implant integrates with the bone to become solid. During the “healing period”, a fixed bridge or a removable denture is used to close your gap.

Stage 2 (Post connection & crown)
In the second treatment stage, a precision fitting post is securely attached into the healed implant. The dentist and dental technician then create the final new tooth crown. The porcelain crown is made to look like your natural teeth and is fixed into place.

Maintenance
Once your new tooth is completed, good oral hygiene habits and regular hygienist gum maintenance visits will be the key to maintaining good implant health.

Bad breath is a difficult subject to approach, even with a good friend or family member. There are many reasons for bad breath such as eating spicy foods and garlic, and inadequate oral hygiene.
What can be done?
If you are worried and think you may have bad breath, you must ask your dentist or hygienist and they will help you to establish whether or not you have a problem.
Over 90% of the odours causing bad breath come from within the mouth.
Your mouth will be assessed and the level of your problem discussed with you.
The areas that trap bacteria (stagnation areas) will be pointed out to you and then your hygienist will carefully clean around every tooth, removing the bacteria and deposits.

Gum Disease

Gum Disease is caused by a build up of the bacteria which live in the plaque and tartar on your teeth. The harmful chemicals produced by the bacteria irritate your gums causing them to bleed.
If you don’t remove plaque everyday, you may find that your gums become swollen and red and that they bleed easily when you brush your teeth.
As gum disease progresses, your gums may pull away from your teeth to form pockets or gaps between your teeth and gums. We call these gaps Periodontal Pockets.
As periodontal pockets can be very difficult to clean out properly, they tend to fill up with more plaque and tartar and become infected.
If allowed to progress this infection spreads further causing your teeth to become loose.
Therefore, regular removal of bacteria, plaque and tartar professionally by the hygienist is essential to maintain healthy gums. Excellent homecare is also vital.
In summary, it is gum disease and not tooth decay that is the major cause of tooth loss in adult patients. We can treat and prevent gum disease so that you:

During your initial visit, we will evaluate, assess and discuss the course of treatment with you. We will take bite impressions of your teeth and will send these to Invisalign® for processing. During your next visit, you will receive your first set of clear aligners. We will most likely give you a few additional sets to wear before your next visit.

Who has cosmetic dentistry?

Anyone who wants to look better! Having a new smile is not just for film and pop stars. There are many options of treatment to suit each individual’s budget and needs. Our Mission is “Creating Beautiful and Healthy Smiles”. We do this on a daily basis for our clients. We are really passionate and proud about the ability we have to impact someone’s life by giving them renewed confidence with a new smile!

Does treatment hurt?

Not at The Perfect Smile Studios. We use special techniques to give painless injections. Our dental drills are water-cooled and the best in modern dentistry. We use high quality anesthetic solutions that work predictably. Our highly experienced dentists work with a light touch for your total comfort. We also give you a hand held buzzer so that you can stop us at anytime. For really nervous clients, we offer sedation techniques which work superbly well.

How much can I have done in one session?

Some of our clients prefer to do one or two fillings at a time. However, most of our clients opt for having one arch or a quadrant done at a time. The advantage of this is that we can deliver higher quality care in a more efficient manner with fewer visits. This also avoids repeat injections.

How many visits does the treatment take?

A smile can be designed and fitted within 2-3 visits. Teeth whitening can be done at the chair side in one visit, but we recommend you carry on with the home kit by wearing the tray and the gels for ½ -1 hour per day for two weeks or so.
Implant dentistry takes longer. We recommend the implants are left for 4-6 months after being surgically placed in the bone. This allows complete integration, after which the posts and crowns can be fitted on.
For complex cases, multiple visits are required to ensure each stage is successfully completed before we move to the next stage.
If we recommend orthodontic treatment (braces), then the treatment time can be on average 1-2 years.

How long does the treatment last?

Nothing in the mouth will last forever. However, if porcelain veneers or crowns are done to a high standard and looked after well, then they can last for up to 15 years or more. We guarantee our crowns and veneers for 5 years (terms and conditions apply).
Teeth whitening can last for 1-3 years. The colour of teeth will remain whiter for longer if you “top up” the whitening every month (i.e. wear the tray in the mouth for only an hour or so). The end result is also affected by factors such as smoking and drinking excess tea & coffee.
Implants last the longest. Statistically, research shows that after 15 years, implants have a survival rate of 95%.

What is the best option to replace missing teeth?

A cobalt chromium denture is the best type of denture if there are some teeth present and you are happy to wear a removable denture.
Implants are the ultimate solution for fixed teeth. They are strong, long lasting and look just like real teeth.
Bridges can also be an excellent option if a client does not want surgery related to implants and if the anchor teeth are healthy and strong.

How much does treatment cost?

The professional dental fees depend on the treatment we carry out. We will always explain to you carefully your best treatment option and alternative options as well. Only when you are completely clear, and we have discussed all your finance options, will we schedule any appointments. You are given written estimates and dental reports to clarify things well so you do not have any hidden surprises. Our clients value the investment they make in improving their health and appearance.
We also offer interest free finance options over an extended period which many of our clients prefer.

An Example
Assuming you require a dental treatment plan for £5000. This can be paid via regular monthly installments by obtaining an interest free loan over one year, or by paying smaller amounts per month (e.g. £200) over say three years.

How do I look after my new smile?

You can eat with porcelain veneers and crowns in the normal way as you would with natural teeth. However, you should be careful not to open drink bottles or dive into toffee apples!
Correct tooth brushing twice a day with Sonicare, flossing between teeth daily and using a good mouthwash (e.g. Retardex) will help maintain excellent dental health.
We also recommend you see our Hygienist at least twice a year to ensure we regularly remove the harmful plaque and tartar beneath the gum levels. This will prevent gum disease from progressing.

Prevention of grinding
It is advisable to wear a protective plastic appliance at night to help prevent any damage to porcelain restorations (if you have had extensive work done). Research has shown that many people unknowingly clench their teeth together when stressed or when sleeping. This places enormous forces that can damage teeth or fillings. By wearing a plastic appliance helps to relax the facial muscles and prevents harmful clenching forces to be transmitted.

Extreme Makeover Series

Our Team of dentists was selected to work with the Extreme Makeover programme on Living TV. This show was a big hit on UK prime time television.
The clients were chosen from 16,000 people who applied to the TV show. Perfect Smile Studios provided the dental care. The best from other fields including plastic surgeons, eye specialists, personal fitness trainers, fashion designers, and hair & beauty consultants worked together to produce remarkable transformations.
Dr Parmar and Dr Doshi were again selected to work on seven people on the third series of Extreme Makeover UK (on Living TV). The Team at The Perfect Smile Studios also treated fifteen clients on the second series of the popular TV show (more than any other dental Practice in the UK!).
The treatment provided has ranged from the placement of dental implants and cosmetic dentures, to Smile Design using porcelain veneers, crowns and bridges. We have also treated some people who have required dentistry to the whole mouth due to extensive dental problems.
Helen was provided with lower dental implants and cosmetic dentures.
Helen really didn’t enjoy having the dentures as she felt like she was restricted in many things in her life. She couldn’t eat certain foods like apples. Helen was even embarrassed to kiss her husband. If she smiled or spoke to people, her dentures would become loose and fall out; she was very embarrassed to do these normal things and this was starting to affect her life in a big way.
She was very much in love with her husband and felt she couldn’t be herself around him because of her poor fitting, loose dentures.
Now Helen is very happy, she has got rid of the restrictions in her life. She can eat very comfortably and has renewed confidence as a person. After having her new smile, Helen really looks fantastic!
Alison had 8 veneers on her upper teeth, and an extra tooth removed from her bottom teeth.
Beverley had a lower back denture replaced, veneers on her top 6 teeth, 2 bridges and whitening.

This Morning TV Show - January 2005

The Perfect Smile Studios were featured on ITV’s This Morning show in January 2005. Margaret Tingle was selected by our Studios to receive a Smile Makeover and facial rejuvenation therapy.
The TV crews spent a whole day at our Studios filming us carrying out Margaret’s dental treatment. Extensive Smile Design work was undertaken to replace old discoloured crowns and failing restorations. The treatment was carried out with intravenous sedation for Margaret’s added comfort.
Margaret was then filmed having hair, beauty and fashion changes. Her new smile has been a significant factor in her confidence and new outlook to life!
