We are GDC Registered
The main purpose of the GDC (General Dental Council) is to protect patient safety and maintain public confidence in dental services.
In the UK it is a requirement by law that all dental care professionals are registered with the General Dental Council. This includes all dentists, nurses, hygiene therapists, hygienists, orthodontic therapists and dental technicians.
The GDC is a regulatory organisation that ensures the correct standards of quality of treatment, patient safety and professional conduct. It ensures correct professional dental training, knowledge and skill. It is an organisation created by legislation and governed by an appointed council. The Dentists Act 1984 provides the legislative framework for their work.
There are certain criteria that need to be acknowledged and adhered to in order to practice dentistry. The GDC holds the register for all dental professionals. Any professional can only be registered if they have a recognised UK qualification and have been approved to be on the register.
The purpose of the GDC:
- To protect, promote and maintain the health, safety and well-being of the public.
- To promote and maintain public confidence in the profession.
- To promote and maintain proper professional standards and conduct for members of those professions.
The GDC also sets the standards of conduct, performance and ethics that must be adhered to at all times to maintain correct practice of dentistry. Thus, the GDC also investigates complaints about dental professional’s fitness to practice.
There is also a certain requirement of post-graduate education that needs to be maintained. This ensures that all dental professionals are kept current and in accordance with all the relevant criteria for practice. The GDC produces guidelines to facilitate this.
All Dental Professionals are expected to keep up to date with Continuous Professional Developments (CPD); part of which is recommended by the GDC.
We endeavour to surpass all expectations and adhere to the protocols and requirements of the GDC at all times.
