A SECURE FIXED OPTION TO CLOSE GAPS

Smiling With a Missing Tooth! | What is a dental Bridge? | Advantages | How Long will the Treatment Take?

A dental bridge can provide you a good option to close gaps for front or back teeth. This does involve using the one or two neighbouring teeth to act as a support teeth (called an anchor or abutment) which will hold the missing tooth (called a pontic) in place.

This can be a long term solution where the bridge is securely fixed to the neighbouring teeth and does not (and cannot) be removed once in place allowing you to chew and function confidently.

A bridge can also be used a part of a holistic smile makeover treatment plan.

WHAT IS A BRIDGE?

A dental bridge is where an artificial tooth (or teeth) is supported by two other natural teeth either side (sometimes more). The natural supporting teeth are called abutments. The artificial teeth are called pontics. A dental bridge literally bridges the gap created by any missing teeth.

There are various designs of dental bridges - some require minimal cutting of the two supporting natural abutment teeth whereas others require the supporting teeth to have full coverage artificial crowns on them. Bridges can also be supported by dental implants. The designs are often dependent upon the integrity of the supporting teeth and the number of missing teeth.

A dental bridge is one which not only has functional abilities, but also one that is aesthetically appealing and fits in naturally with the other dentition.

Alternatives to a bridge include an implant or when missing a few teeth only a partial Denture.

ADVANTAGES OF A BRIDGE

HOW LONG WILL THE TREATMENT FOR A BRIDGE TAKE?

Our experienced ceramist will hand craft your bridge specific to your bite, gap, and appearance of your neighbouring teeth so the gap closure looks natural.

The length of the treatment is dependent upon the type of dental bridge design chosen. For example if you choose an implant-supported bridge, this can take longer to complete than a natural tooth supported bridge due to preparatory work required in surgically placing and healing of a dental implant.

For the most part two appointments are needed: one to prepare the abutments, and the other to fit and bond the final bridge once it has been created in the laboratory.

Step 1
We will start the process with a highly detailed and thorough comprehensive examination and assessment. Your dentist will then construct a customised treatment plan and design your work.
Step 2
The teeth will be prepared and any necessary records will be taken before the new teeth are constructed by the ceramist.
Step 3
Your final new teeth will then be bonded in your mouth.
