How to take care of your new smile to help it last longer.

How much maintenance is required?

The life of any dental work depends on controlling three aspects: decay, gum disease, and bite issues. Decay is controlled by diet, gum disease by oral hygiene, and bite issues need to be caught in advance. Thus, maintaining any cosmetic dentistry requires brushing your teeth twice a day, flossing once a day, minimising the frequency of sugar consumption at mealtimes and avoiding using your teeth as tools. Correct maintenance and aftercare will reduce any side effects, complications and need for repair.

Additional tips

We recommend regular hygiene treatment at least every six months. For patients who have had gum disease before starting the treatment, it is recommended every three months.

We also recommend, at a minimum, an annual examination to check cosmetic treatments like veneers or bonding and to reassess your bite. Your bite may change with time due to tooth movement, creating an issue. We also want to ensure your diet is correct and look for signs of early decay.

For veneers

We recommend using mouthguards if you have had dental veneer treatment, for example, if you grind your teeth at night.

For braces

We recommend using permanent lifelong retainers bonded to the inside surface of the teeth to retain your straight teeth.

“Rahul and The Perfect Smile Team gave me my Perfect Smile a few years ago with a full set of porcelain veneers and I am every bit as delighted today as I was then.”
