The smile is completed at a fitting appointment which takes approximately 2 hours.
All porcelain restorations are currently individually hand-made. Consequently, they will always show subtle variations in shapes and sizes.
This ‘final smile’ stage is often 2-3 weeks after the preparation appointment. We will only fit the final smile makeover if you have approved of the new look on the model, and have had a preview via a digital image.
If there are areas you would like to change, this can always be done, where we would make new temporary veneers whilst the alterations are made and call you for a new visit to fit the final veneers.
We normally use a local anaesthetic to remove pain. The trial smile is carefully removed, and the new restorations tried for the accuracy of fit and colour. If the dentist is totally happy, these will be bonded in place with strong cement.
The cement is carefully chosen as this can also affect the colour of the fitted veneers. The shade can be either translucent, white, pink or a natural shade. The cement is often set with a dental light. This visit is often 90 minutes to 150 minutes long.
Factors that affect the long term durability of your new smile include:
• Keeping good gum health and no bleeding gums (i.e. if you follow the aftercare guidelines as advised).
• Excellent cooperation during cementation of the restorations.
The final smile stage allows us the chance to ensure that the appearance is up to your standards, but also lets us deal with any issues with the health, structure and bite of the teeth has been corrected in the treatment journey.
The Second Review Appointment (approximately 30 minutes)
This is normally 1-7 days after the fitting appointment. We carefully check your bite and appearance and ensure you are comfortable and happy with your new smile. Final photographs of your new smile are taken at this visit; so please dress your best for this visit!
We sometimes advise the patient to have a bite guard made in order to protect the teeth for the long term. This should be worn at night time. The bite guard can be made from soft or hard plastic material, and you will be guided on what is most appropriate for you.
Continuing care of your final teeth is very important for a long lasting smile.
