Are Dental Implants a Good Idea?
Benefits of Dental Implants
Dental Implants form a great solution to missing teeth. They simply replace the root of any tooth you may have lost in the past. They can then be used to support a wide range of restorations such as crowns, bridges and dentures.
It is important to replace missing teeth to prevent all the negative effects of losing teeth. There is a cascade of biological, physiological and psychological events that occur in the mouth as a direct consequence of losing teeth. More.
There are numerous benefits to Dental Implants:
- Greater confidence. Losing teeth can have an undesirable effect on a person’s self-esteem. Replacing your missing teeth easily restores that confidence to eat, chew and speak to others.
- Durable. Dental implants are part of a long-term solution since they are extremely durable. It is important that we carry out implant surgery with long term success in mind.
- Fixed. They form a great fixed solution which means that you no longer have to take unsightly dentures out when cleaning or at nighttime. Dentures are notoriously known to become ill-fitting and loose over time.
- Better chewing ability. Since dental implants are fixed it means that you are able to eat, chew and speak without any moving dentures. Dentures are notorious for becoming loose over time. This is due to the bone resorption that occurs as a result of having no teeth. This also improves your nutritional health by proper chewing.
- Enhanced aesthetics. Innovative techniques mean that dental implants can provide a great cosmetic result of natural looking teeth.
- Improved speech. Due to the fact that the teeth are fixed into the correct place, your speech is also unhindered by non-moving teeth. This is especially true when the front teeth are missing.
- Conservative. A great benefit of dental implants is that you do not have to file down neighbouring natural teeth as is done so in other treatments like bridges. Implants stand independently. They do not impact any other tooth in the mouth.
- Improvement in quality of life. Implants look and feel just like your own natural teeth. Implants have the ability to make a person feel like their own teeth are back. Implant supported teeth of whichever nature makes a person feel like everything has been restored back to the way it should be with great aesthetics that don’t change, ease of chewing and restored speaking ability.
- Retains Bone. Since dental implants are embedded into your jawbone, the bone function is restored. This means that it is less likely for the bone to continuously resorb away since it now has a purpose of holding the implant. When the jawbone has no teeth or implants in it, then it simply tends to resorb away. It is a similar concept to unused muscles wasting away.
- Facial Support. When you have lost teeth for some time the bone that used to support the tooth and the facial form is often lost and this ends up giving you an aged appearance. You can restore any lost support for your facial form with dental implant treatment.
- Proven Success. The recommended implant systems are clinically safe as proven with long term studies. We use only the most worldwide leading brands that have proven to be optimal. Dental advancements mean that implants are now easy to have done, safer and with faster healing capabilities. They also provide easier usability for dentists so that they can accurately place implants in the correct positions with minimal impact to either other teeth or associated structures.

At The Perfect Smile, we understand that patients may be naturally nervous when thinking of undergoing dental implant surgery.
We would like to reassure you that the dental implant treatment is not painful at all due to proper use of local anesthetics to deeply numb the bone and gum.
We can also use sedation techniques that also contribute to no pain or discomfort. More.
Single Dental Implant Timeline
- Step 1: We will start the process with a highly detailed and thorough comprehensive examination and assessment. We will then construct a customised treatment plan and design your implant treatment.
- Step 2: Your new implant(s) will be surgically placed in your mouth.
- Step 3: On this review appointment we will assess your healing and make sure everything is going as planned.
- Step 4: Records and impression will be taken to construct the top part (post and crown) of the implant.
- Step 5: The final part of the implant (post and crown) will be fitted.
- Step 6: This appointment gives you the opportunity to have any further refining cosmetic enhancements or minor adjustments.
Insufficient Bone
- When a tooth is removed from the mouth, the surrounding bone that holds the tooth in place will diminish in height and width and volume. This may have an effect on the immediate and final appearance of the gum tissue in this area and possibly the surrounding teeth as well.
- The larger the width of bone or the height of the bone, the wider and longer implant can be. A wider and longer implant increases implant stability and thus success. We asses the bone height and width by taking digital radiographs or by taking a CT Scan. More.
