Invisalign tips that will blow your mind

What No One Tells You About Invisalign

Considering Invisalign? Why shouldn’t you? It can transform smiles discreetly in just a matter of months. It’s comfortable; it’s popular, millions trust it…

But what about its limitations? What are the top tips you need to know to ensure your Invisalign journey succeeds? What’s the real review?

As orthodontists, we know everything there is to know about straightening smiles. We work with this system daily, seeing its results and our patients’ feedback. Here’s what you need to know…

1. Be careful, the aligners can stain!

One of Invisalign’s greatest advantages is that it is completely and easily removable. Not only can you take it out when you eat and drink, but you must also keep its clear, translucent appearance.

The smart plastic aligners are prone to staining, which means that to keep them in perfect condition, you should brush your teeth after every meal and lightly clean your aligners to keep them fresh.

2. Make the switch before you go to sleep

Another one of Invisalign’s benefits is that it’s comfortable, but that does not mean that patients should not expect slight discomfort when switching over to their new aligners.

Invisalign works to shift your teeth into their ideal position gradually, and it does this with a series of custom aligners.

As the switchover period will require no interruption, it is advised to put in a new set before you go to bed. This will also ensure that you will sleep through any discomfort.

3. 2 hours of non-wear time

You will have to wear your aligners for 22 hours daily to see successful treatment results.

It is even advisable to keep them in for longer than this and to wear them as much as possible.

However, Invisalign is designed to suit the lives of many on-the-go and busy individuals, which means they can be removed when playing a sport, playing musical instruments or even a quick kiss.

4. Water should be your first and only choice

One of the worst mistakes any Invisalign wearer can make is drinking anything other than water while wearing it.

Sugary drinks can cause decay to your teeth during this treatment and possibly stain your aligners. Other drinks to avoid include coffee, tea, and other sodas.

5. Your oral hygiene will need to be a top priority

You need to treat Invisalign like another set of teeth; not only will your aligners need to be cleaned and taken care of, but adequately taking care of your teeth will be just as important.

That’s why embedding a good oral hygiene routine is one of the most important Invisalign tips. As orthodontists, we strongly suggest brushing your teeth after every meal to eliminate food particles that can cause decay or gum disease.

Brushing, rinsing, and flossing will be essential.

6. Chewing gum is going to work in your favour

Invisalign wearers will know how helpful chewies can be. Sugar-free chewing gum can be great at cleaning teeth after a meal and can also help secure your aligners.

7. Never throw away your old aligners

It’s human nature to lose things, so if you lose or break your new set of aligners, it is recommended to keep wearing your previous ones from the last stage to avoid retention.

This helps patients avoid prolonged treatment times as it helps continue and maintain the treatment without interruption while waiting for your new set.

8. It’s not over until you finish wearing your Viveras

Once you finish your Invisalign treatment, it might be tempting to not wear your retainers or forget to put them on.

To complete the treatment correctly, you must wear retainers when you sleep.

Depending on your case, you might be required to wear the retainers for a full six months after treatment has ended. This is a nighttime-only treatment.
