Every dentist has to undertake a 5-year undergraduate course at university
Different universities have different programs. Some of the top universities will provide a superior level of training and a better understanding of the treatment protocols and techniques.
This gives dentists a basic foundational knowledge.
Thereafter, the dentist is required to do a one-year vocational training program whereby they work as a salaried dentist for a dental practice.
As part of this program, they also attend various lectures and training on additional components of dentistry.

Following these six years, the dentist is pretty much left to their own devices as to what other further education and learning they acquire
However, in an ever-changing world of new innovations and methods in practically every field of dentistry, it is vital that a dentist remains at the forefront of such modernisations.
The General Dental Council have a specific requirement of a certain number of learning hours that a dentist and dental team must acquire over the course of every five years.
There are also standards of practice that all dentists must adhere to:
Our experienced dentists who make up our dental staff at the Perfect Smile Practice have all completed numerous courses and learning programs in various fields of dentistry, including cosmetic, orthodontic and restorative. They have all invested heavily in advanced post-graduate education which has given them the competitive edge since they have a better and fuller understanding of cosmetic and other treatment procedures, like dental implants.
In order to do dentistry well, our dentists have acquired knowledge, skills and experience in collaborative areas such as bite (occlusion), smile designing, orthopaedics, veneers and other cosmetic treatments.
Due to extensive experience and education over the last 30-40 years, our dentists have become renowned clinicians with much respect from their fellow professionals.
Highly recognised and recommended
They have also become highly recognized in the industry and now serve on various committees and organisations.
One is the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry (BACD), the largest cosmetic organization in the UK – we have at least five Board of Directors and two past and current presidents.
In order to be a member of the BACD, every dentist must carry out extensive learning of a certain number of hours in specific fields of dentistry.
There is also an accreditation process whereby the dentist has to demonstrate their skills and knowledge.
Thereafter, their work is reviewed and judged by their fellow peers.
We also have dentists who have been on the judging panel of various accolades and awards in the industry.
All of our dentists are also trainers/educators, professional speakers and authors of numerous professional articles. Meet our team of cosmetic dentists.
The most important skill of all that we believe to be the secret to our success is customized treatment planning.
Knowledge and experience are required to make sure that the treatment selected to be part of the treatment plan is highly compatible with the patient’s unique set of circumstances – the more compatible the better the outcome of the treatment and the chances for long-lasting dentistry.
Treatment planning is a huge field of dentistry and requires a considerable amount of learning.
We offer our patients free consultations to give them a chance to get to know our team, credentials and skills better as well as being informed about the treatment suitable to their condition.
Our main practices in Hertford and London (St John’s Wood and Marylebone) offer patients careful time and consideration to listen to their requirements and concerns.
