Dental Lasers: Uses, Benefits and Safety
Our practice is proud to be one of the very few in the country that offers laser dentistry, benefiting our patients with gum disease and receding gums.
Depending on your treatment needs, the dental team will discuss your suitability prior with a consultation.
What is Laser Dentistry?
Laser dentistry involves using lasers to treat a variety of conditions without the use of drilling.
Treatment provides a less painful option and is fully designed to be more comfortable and pain-free. It primarily works by eliminating infection and promoting bone regeneration.
The laser light reacts when it hits tissue, allowing tissue removal or reshaping for gummy smiles.

Some Of The Laser Treatment We Offer Include:
Treatment for Periodontal Disease (Gum Disease)
Tooth loss in adults mainly occurs as a result of gum disease. Laser therapy is beneficial for the treatment of gums because the energy from the laser kills the bacteria in the mouth. The procedure is fast, pain-free and will heal the gum pockets much more effectively than conventional treatment.
Gum Whitening (Gum Depigmentation)
You may find your gums look off-pink or discoloured. The laser depigmentation technique targets the pigments that cause the darkening of the gum area and creates a lighter, more uniform colour. We would use a local anaesthetic in this instance, but the procedure takes only a few minutes.
Aesthetic Gum Contouring and Reshaping
Lasers are a great way to correct gummy smiles (an excess of gum on the show when smiling). This procedure involves using lasers to reshape or lift the gum and is beneficial to the patient because it is carried out quickly and painlessly. The result is an asymmetrical gum line and a confident smile.
Crown Lengthening
Lasers are used to shape the gum so that the crowns appear lengthened, creating a bigger and more attractive smile without having to use a scalpel.
Painful Ulcers
Many who suffer from ulcers resort to purchasing over-the-counter products. However, these treatments only offer a short-term solution.
Wisdom Tooth Problems
Laser therapy allows us to perform an operculectomy - where the flaps around the growing wisdom teeth are removed reducing any chance of later infection.
Root Canal Treatment
Lasers have been proven to be more beneficial than standard treatments because the lasers kill off much more bacteria in the root canal system.
