Every dentist has to undertake a 5-year undergraduate course at university
Different universities have different programs. Some of the top universities will provide a superior level of training and a better understanding of the treatment protocols and techniques. This gives a dentist the basic foundational knowledge.
Thereafter, the dentist is required to do a one year vocational training program whereby they work as a salaried dentist for a dental practice. After these six years, the dentist is pretty much left to their own devices as to what other further education and learning they acquire

The General Dental Council have a specific requirement of a certain number of learning hours that a dentist and dental team must acquire over the course of every five years. There are also standards of practice that all dentists must adhere to.

In order to be a member of the BACD every dentist must carry out extensive learning of a certain number of hours in specific fields of dentistry. There is also an accreditation process whereby the dentist has to demonstrate their skill and knowledge.
Thereafter, their work is reviewed and judged by their fellow peers.
