I had all on 4 implants – this is what it’s really like

The Truth About The All-on-4 Experience

Treated at The Perfect Smile Studios on Extreme Makeover UKPatient and guest blogger – Miranda Wheeler.

I sat in a dental reception this time last year, eagerly awaiting my All-on-four restoration.

Nine months on, I must say that my new permanent teeth have been great – an improvement compared to my experience with dentures.

A non-existent lisp and the freedom to eat anything I want without a second thought has been a real life-changer. But let me break down my entire experience into easy-to-read paragraphs so you can better understand all the highs and lows.

The difference in feeling from temporaries

There is a significant difference between your permanent set of teeth and the temporary ones you are fitted with on day one.

Your permanent teeth have the right bite; they look and feel better. So, my advice in the early stages is to trust the process and give everything a chance.

If your teeth do not feel right, you can return to your dentist to have them changed until you feel comfortable. In my experience, I had multiple wax try-ins to get the perfect fit.

In the beginning, I was warned by my implant dentist, Dr Gurs, that I would not love the temps, and he was right. I didn’t. But then he also said that I would love my permanent set, and after a few months, I really did and still do. There’s a huge difference.

How they feel in my mouth

  • Even though it’s only been nine months since my surgery, I only really think about my teeth as implants when I’ve attended a check-up with the dentist.
  • I can’t tell you how incredible it is to feel the roof of your mouth again.

My daily life and how I feel

I eat when and what I want and feel confident enough to smile whenever the opportunity strikes.

My confidence has improved since, and my husband claims that I’m a different woman, and maybe I am. All I know is that I feel better, and I can relax knowing that I have a complete set of permanent teeth again.

Keeping them clean

Cleaning them is easy – there’s no massive difference between cleaning a natural set of teeth.

  • I make sure to floss and love how they feel once cleaned! They’re super smooth.

What other people have said

No one seems to really believe me when I tell them they’re not actually my own teeth, and to be honest; it’s not something I shout from the rooftops; I want people to believe they are my own.

However, I tend to get a lot of comments on my teeth, people saying they are nice, white, or straight, so I really can’t complain.

If you grind your teeth, tell the dentist

Comment from Dr Gurs: When a patient is fitted with implants, you’ll bite down with five times the pressure you would with your natural teeth.

Patients who grind their teeth will likely damage their new prosthesis (all-on-four). To prevent damage to your new teeth, we can create a custom mouthguard for you to wear at night to keep them safe.

About the patient

Miranda, at 36, had lost the majority of her teeth due to an advanced and aggressive form of pregnancy gingivitis. This actual condition affects many people throughout the UK.

After having her first child, Miranda’s teeth began to fall out one by one, leaving only a few, which she later extracted to fit a denture more comfortably.

After almost three decades of wearing dentures, Miranda’s confidence was gone. So, after saving up a bit of money, Miranda knew it was finally time to do something, and we recommended All-on-Four to her as she had the money to spend and wanted the best of the best.

Miranda now has two full arches of permanent teeth and has decided to start following her passion as a blogger to share her experiences to help others who may also be struggling with self-confidence.

When writing this, Miranda was setting up her blog and had planned to use the URL mirandascuretoselflove.com.
