Most people are well aware that having healthy teeth is of great importance to one’s overall health.
Eat these foods for optimal health:
- Calcium – this keeps the enamel healthy. Whole milk and dairy products are the key sources of calcium, but so are spinach, kale, collard, salmon and soy beans. It should be noted that calcium is better absorbed in the presence of vitamin D, so people should also include fatty fish, mushrooms and eggs in their diet.
- Magnesium is another important chemical element because a proper balance between it and calcium is required to maintain healthy bones and teeth. Almonds, cocoa, bran, brown rice and spinach are good sources of magnesium.
- Vitamin C – Taking care of your teeth should be complemented by gum care. People who consume low amounts of vitamin C are more likely to develop inflammation of the gums, known as gingivitis. Traditionally, citrus fruit are regarded as excellent source of vitamin C, but it is also found in sweet red pepper, cauliflower and potatoes. Dentists warn that chewable vitamin C should be avoided because it causes teeth erosion.
- Dark chocolate – it has properties that can prevent tooth decay because of the antioxidants it contains. Green tea, as well as black tea, are also powerful anti-bacterial tools and can be used as prevention for tooth disease.

- Sweet and soft drinks
- Limit cooked starchy foods, such as potatoes, with care. It is recommended that people brush their teeth or at least rinse their mouth after eating them.
